One
of the most concentrated
fish oils available, WINOmeg3complexTM is concentrated
by a patented enzyme process and two molecular distillations which
produce a pharmaceutical-grade oil with more than 85% omega-3
fatty acids. Compare this to most products on the market that
are 30%-35% concentrated, and even to most of the pharmaceutical-grade
fish oils with concentrations of 60%-65%, and you can see how
it would take many more capsules daily to equal the amount of
omega-3 fatty acids found in one serving of WINOmeg3complex.
WINOmeg3complex
has a high ratio of EPA to DHA (3.3:1). EPA and DHA are the two
forms of omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil. DHA is important
for infant brain development, and is found in high concentration
in breast milk. After the first three years of life, only small
amounts of DHA are required to maintain health.
The
raw material for WINOmeg3complex is fish oil from fisheries on
the west coast of South America, where nutrient rich cold water
from the Antarctic region runs northwards in the Humboldt Current.
The fish oil produced in this region is a co-product of fishmeal
production. It is used both for making fish feed for the salmon
farming industry and for companies using the oil for production
of food supplements. The oil from the Humboldt Current fisheries
is high in omega-3 fatty acids and low in industrial pollutants.
Many
industrial pollutants are fat-soluble and will therefore end up
in fatty fish. The purification process which gives WINOmeg3complex
its exceptional concentration also permits the elimination of
all the impurities generally contained in farmed or wild-caught
fish. Certain products are contaminated with the pollutants which
occur with unfortunate frequency in nature, such as mercury, PCBs
or dioxin. This guarantee of purity is essential for a natural
product derived from the sea, in view of the frequency of contamination
of marine products.
Exposure
to oxygen makes omega-3 fatty acids rancid. Prevention of oxidation
is, therefore, the second most important quality issue, next to
removal of pollutants. At an early stage of production the crude
fish oil is prepared according to a patented technology removing
oxidative components. Later, oil tanks and processing equipment
are flooded with nitrogen in order to prevent the oil getting
in contact with oxygen. The end product is kept in specialized
containers covered with a nitrogen blanket. While inside the capsules,
the oils are not exposed to air, so there is no need for having
nitrogen in the capsules. This manufacturing process delivers
one of the freshest oils on the market with peroxide values (indicators
of freshness) from an absolute 0.0mEq/kq to an average of 1.6mEq/kq,
levels that are six times lower than the Norwegian Medicinal Standard
and European Pharmacopoeia Standard limits. The lower the peroxide
value, the fresher the oil. The final product contains a small
amount of natural vitamin E for stabilization of the product.
WIN’s
supplier is one of two producers in the world qualified by the
US Food and Drug Administration for producing omega-3 pharmaceuticals.
The fish oil, intermediate products and the end product are controlled
according to predefined quality standards using state-of-the-art
analytical methods. Routine audits by health authorities are done
on a regular basis to ensure that the products are produced in
accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), the highest
quality standard.
The omega-3
concentrates are capsulated in soft-gel capsules by industrial
partners with extensive experience in this field. About 15% of
all pharmaceuticals on the market are capsulated using similar
encapsulation technology and the materials and processes used
in the production of WINOmeg3complex meets pharmaceutical standards.
WINOmeg3complex
has no fishy aftertaste. Oxidized fish oil is like rancid butter
and will have a fishy aftertaste which can linger over several
hours.
